Provides assistance to the surgical team during the intra-operative phase of surgical care within multiple specialties to include; General Surgery, ENT, OB/GYN, Urology, and Orthopedics or as requested. Works in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team in the performance of surgical procedures, including assessment, planning, directing, providing and evaluating advanced nursing care. All RNFA’s will participate in scheduled and on-call rotation to provide surgical assistance for elective, emergent and stat surgical cases.
Essential functions: Collaborates with the surgical team on plan of care. Provides knowledge-based technical assistance to surgeon during the operative procedure according to AORN standards, licensure, state regulation, and facility/handling protocols, including: using instruments and medical devices. Providing surgical exposure. Handling and/or cutting tissue. Providing hemostasis, clamp, cut and ligate tissue as directed by the surgeon. Suturing as directed by the surgeon. Assists with room preparation in collaboration with the Circulating nurse and scrub person. Assists in transferring the patient to and from the operating room table. Participates in Time-out. Assists in patient preparation as necessary: positioning, prepping, shaving, and catheterization. Assists in draping. Sets up ESU, suction and lights for the sterile field. Applies dressings and secures drainage tubes. Assists in room turnover and OR efficiency efforts. Able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Also able to function as a team member and act as a patient advocate.

Basic required qualifications:
Minimum two years of practice as a RNFA
Current Oregon RN license
Current CNOR certification
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Completion of AORN recognized RNFA course
Current CRNFA Certification preferred, will consider if actively working towards CRNFA Certification
