Voice Instructor:

Private lessons. East and West Side locations. All levels. Classical, pop, broadway, liturgical; comfort in any/all genres. Able to read music, lead warm-ups, know fixed Do and moveable Do Solfege, theory, and sight-sing. Able to explain mechanics of singing including breathing and diaphragmatic vibrato. Ability to play piano at least for warm-ups and melodies a must. Able to figure out melodies by ear. Personable, patient, and passionate.

➦ KTL offers enjoyable and meaningful part-time contractor work, a network of dedicated teachers, support from the KTL Director, and the chance to perform at school functions on a regular basis.

➦ KTL is also happy to provide the following extras to the usual hourly pay:

➦ Paid training/job shadow at half the hourly rate.

➦ Monthly commuter stipend for those traveling across town.

➦ Pay for recitals, faculty meetings, and faculty band rehearsals.

➦ Pay for last minute cancellations.

Prerequisites for All Prospective Teachers:

➦ Proficiency with instrument (perform at interview)

➦ Previous teaching experience

➦ Ability to read music

➦ Communicate and present oneself professionally

Preferred Additional Skill Sets for All Teachers:

➦ Sing with confidence

➦ Know and use Solfege (Do Re Mi)

➦ Go beyond method books and engage student creativity

Have experience with or on-going personal practice of a somatic discipline. Examples include yoga, the Alexander technique, and the Feldenkrais method.

Compensation depends on experience, expertise, and credentials.

Beginning in 2006, Sara Kushner has grown KTL from her personal studio in her home to a thriving community that serves over 100 families. KTL has multiple locations throughout the Portland area, provides people of all ages classes suited to their needs and interests, and offers lessons for most instruments and styles. KTL has biannual formal recitals, mini recitals at local retirement homes, rock shows at a local pubs and other performance opportunities based on student interest.
